About

Ivana Horvat is an Emmy-nominated producer and editor who specializes in documentary and branded content. Originally displaced from Sarajevo as a result of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, she is based in Portland, OR. Her work gravitates towards helping to understand the immigrant experience, shedding light on the different layers that make up our identities. Her personal feature length documentary Finding Bosnia (world premiere at the 2015 Sarajevo Film Festival, winner of the Rising Star Award at the Canadian International Film Festival, Official Selection of the St. Louis International Film Festival, NW Filmmakers Festival and the Chicago Festival of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film), propelled her into embracing the grit and creative spirit needed to successfully create, premiere and distribute a feature length film with a budget of ten grand. Her work with MetroEast, a community media center, has earned her three Northwest Regional Emmy nominations on her short form client work and a diverse skillset. She values her ability to communicate and connect with interviewees, crew and collaborators while bringing a magnetism to any project she works on.

She has been involved in the Portland film scene working on projects of all flavors including promotional videos, narrative indie film productions, music films, experimental wedding videos, and PSA’s. Her documentary Follow the Water recently won Best Oregon Film at the Oregon Documentary Film Festival and is currently going through the film festival circuit. She has premiered three episodes of a docuseries entitled Food Foray which is in the process of getting distribution.

As a young girl Ivana began making films on her dad’s camcorder and her passion for storytelling evolved after she learned how powerful video can be. She still geeks out on how film can carve itself into our emotional core, helping open us to new ideas and shaping the way we think and act.

It’s also fun + magical.
